The security review for an Israeli press office card is relatively straightforward. \u00a0The request must provide accurate information on the media outlet as well as the person applying for the press card. \u00a0Essentially the security review checks that the person applying does not threaten the state\u2019s security, meaning they never committed a crime in Israel, were never deported from the country, are not employed by a hostile nation, and so forth. \u00a0That said, the Israeli Government Press Office is able to issue press cards at its discretion, and there are cases where a foreign journalist does not necessarily pass all the security elements above, but they can be issued a press pass. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Qualifications to Apply for a Government Press Office Card in Israel<\/b><\/h4>\n

In order to apply for a Government Press Office card, the applicant must be affiliated with a media outlet that meets certain criteria. \u00a0Among others, these include ongoing activity for a minimum of two years and a readership measured by 10,000 newspapers sold per issue or 100,000 daily hits for an online outlet. Additionally, the media outlet must primarily cover news pieces, in contrast to opinion pieces, for example. Another qualification is that advertising can not comprise more than forty percent of the newspaper pages or online magazine web pages. \u00a0Furthermore, at least half of the articles published by the outlet must be written by employees of the media outlet.<\/span><\/p>\n
